Ambassador Profile – Margaret Coombes
1. How did you first hear about Shared Interest?
An advert in the local paper in 1993. I became a member in 1994.
2. When did you join as an Ambassador?
In 2006.
3. What motivated you to become an Ambassador?
I felt I was trying to spread the word about Shared Interest in my own way and I hoped that by becoming an Ambassador I may find other inspiration from other likeminded people.
4. What does it mean to you to be an Ambassador?
To promote Shared Interest at any available opportunity.
5. What do you enjoy most about being an Ambassador?
I enjoy the feeling of meeting other Ambassadors and sharing our similar goals to inspire interest in others. I also enjoy spreading the news of Shared Interest to people who have not previously heard about Shared Interest.
6. What Ambassador activities have you undertaken in the last three months?
I have volunteered at the Shared Interest office. I have also made contact with members of the public and neighbours who showed positive signs of investing.
7. Which activities have you found to be most successful overall?
Making contact with members of the public and inspiring interest in them about Shared Interest.
8. What do you find most difficult or frustrating about the Ambassador scheme?
I am frustrated by my lack of confidence with presentations to large groups.
9. Do you have any suggestions on how the scheme could be improved?
I think that the scheme is great. The problems in fulfilling aims are human.
10. Finally do you have any words of wisdom for other Ambassadors?
What a brilliant idea it is for people to trade their way out of poverty and help themselves, that’s the way forward surely. The best way for us is to try and help with whatever means we have.
Thanks to Margaret for contributing with this section. It is great to read about the activities of Ambassadors and I would like to request that you all complete these questions that I will email to you. The Ambassador scheme is flexible and consequently there is a variety of Ambassador activity. It is encouraging to read any activities in which you have been involved and can also inspire other Ambassadors to do the same. The regional training sessions will offer many of you, as Margaret has commented, a great opportunity to meet one another and share your common goals for the future success of the scheme.
