Spotlight on Fairtrade Businesses – Jurang Fairtrade
Each week, Shared Interest will highlight a business who is activiely promoting Fairtrade in their community. This blog post does not imply endorsement by Shared Interest. Please contact us if you would like the ‘spotlight’ on your company.
Jurang Fairtrade is a 100% dedicated office supplier, supplying Fairtrade coffee and tea to businesses, organisations and schools all over Greater Manchester. We believe that it makes business sense do ethical business and that any business, of any size will benefit from having a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy. Fairtrade is a key contribution to any CSR policy and we help you make that contribution through our premier service.
Our current clients illustrate how we successfully serve a number of different businesses and organisations; from business centres to churches and from council offices to schools. Where possible we extend our office supply to include a Fairtrade Table; a Fairtrade snack and vending service for employees. This service brings delicious and ethical snacks into the workplace and helps employees to think about Fairtrade as well as making a practical difference by choosing a Fairtrade snack. Getting a Fairtrade table comes at no cost to your business and is designed not to interfere with your day-to-day business activities. Additionally this service further extends an organisation’s CSR policy.
Jurang Fairtrade has built strong links within the community and we aim to work in close partnership with other local businesses. Most notably we are the UK’s first business and retail outlet for the inspiring Oromo Coffee Company, which is based in Ashton-under-Lyne and has recently been in the news a number of times with regards to their unique company and coffee.
However, Jurang Fairtrade is about more than just doing ethical business. It’s also about raising awareness and furthering the impact of Fairtrade. The UK consumer market is comparatively well educated regarding Fairtrade, but we believe we can go further; a lot further. Consequently we regularly speak about Fairtrade and are actively involved with organisations that also have a desire to see Trade Justice.
We also want to bring a growing range of Fairtrade products into the community. Unfortunately supermarkets stock very little of the thousands of Fairtrade certified products that are available. Increasingly we have also noticed poor quality Fairtrade products entering the market. Because of this we have developed trading relationships with the Oromo Coffee Company, Traidcraft, Cafedirect, Divine and Equal Exchange to bring a wide variety of high quality Fairtrade products into our community. We have a number of outlets in the Dukinfield/Stalybridge area where people can buy different products, whilst our full range is available every Sunday at St. John’s Church Community Hall in Dukinfield. Additionally we now also trade online at www.jurang.co.uk
Jurang Fairtrade would love to hear from businesses, organisations, schools and faith groups that might be interested in getting a dedicated Fairtrade tea and coffee supply or a Fairtrade Table. Visit our webiste www.jurang.co.uk to find out more or contact Corniel Quak-Winslow on 01457 833444 or e-mail info@jurang.co.uk

I’ve got to take issue with your disclaimer ‘This blog post does not imply endorsement by Shared Interest’.
Posts don’t appear on this blog by accident. Someone at Shared Interest, in this case Patrick, has decided to highlight this particular business out of the many that supply Fairtrade products. This is certainly selection even if it isn’t endorsement.
Hi David,
Thank you for expressing your concern. The ‘Spotlight on Fairtrade Businesses’ blog posts are not endorsements by Shared Interest in the same way that inserts from other organisations in the members’ newsletter QR are not endorsements. This is nothing more than a reciprocal marketing arrangement in which Shared Interest and its partners promote (not endorsing) their respective services. To be sure, we are selective about our marketing partners and feel confident that all partners comply with the same ethical principles on which Shared Interest was founded.
Thank you again for your concern.

[...] Consumer Responsibility Policy (CSR) is a very important business goal; because it has beneficial affects, not only to its customers, but also to its corporate image. Having a good corporate image is a very effective advertisement of its products and services being offered. Customers have the tendency to patronize products and services of companies that have good name, especially those that have Consumer Responsibility Policy (CSR). There is a tendency to have “Symbiotic Reaction”. Customers tend to return the goodwill that the company has given them. Our business tried many fair trade coffees before we started with Jurang. I almost came to the conclusion that fair trade coffee is made with inferior beans. Their coffee is one of the best I’ve tasted. Well done Jurang in finding good suppliers.
