Going Bananas in Bolton

On Monday 2nd March the Shared Interest team visited the Bolton Reebok Stadium, home of Bolton Wanderers FC for a day of fair trade activities.

At the daytime event, more thanĀ  1500 school children from the region came along to learn more about fair trade. Shared Interest’s Rachel Ngondo and Geoff Atkinson delivered a talk on tea producers in East Africa, whilst I played the supply chain game from our Schools’ Pack which is to be launched during 2009. The school groups later filtered into the stand, to eat a Fairtrade banana as part of the Fairtrade Foundation’s ‘Go Bananas’ record breaker attempt, hosted by the Mayor of Bolton and players from Bolton Wanderers FC.

The evening event saw over 500 visitors to the stadium for the Fairtrade Market, where products were available to purchase and Shared Interest were on hand to raise awareness of fair finance for the developing world.
