Fair Trade in Latin America; Too Big for One Person!

A DIARY OF A TRIP TO PERU FOR PATRICIA ALEXANDER, ELISABETH WILSON AND HUGO VILLELA

By Elisabeth Wilson

Thursday 30 October

We woke up late this morning – 5am! At this rate, we should sleep through until a much more respectable 7am tomorrow.

Today is the primary reason for our trip as today we will be interviewing 4 candidates for the role of Regional Development Executive, Peru. As already mentioned, the South American territory is currently being covered by Hugo from Costa Rica, but the whole of Latin America is far too big a territory for any one person to attempt to cover. Our research indicated that Peru is the optimum location in South America for our third Shared Interest office and it certainly seems from our visit so far that there is a huge amount of potential for our lending here.

We had an interesting day and saw some good candidates. By the end of the day, we felt that we had found ‘our man in Lima’ and we hope to meet him again prior to our departure to discuss a couple of points in more detail. By the end of next week, we would hope to have some positive news to impart to our readers.
